About the role:

The role of the ESG Disclosures Director will be to develop and drive strategic execution of Alcoa’s ESG reporting strategy in alignment with our business strategy and values. This position will lead our ESG reporting and disclosure activities by working cross-functionally with both internal and external stakeholders to coordinate and streamline routine and unplanned ESG reporting. The role will drive strategic analysis of ESG ratings and reviews, understanding our strengths and key improvement opportunities, as well as engage with external stakeholders to gain insight on emerging ESG risks/opportunities and upcoming regulatory changes. In addition, this role will support the communications team in ESG messaging and reporting.


Core Activities

  • Develop and maintain an ESG reporting strategy that provides transparency, is aligned with regulatory requirements, and supports Alcoa’s business priorities and the needs and expectations of our stakeholders.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with internal business partners, including finance, legal, investor relations, operations, commercial, communications and subject matter experts across the business to coordinate and consolidate accurate and timely ESG disclosure reports.
  • Oversee data collection and prepare submissions to ESG ratings and research firms, including DJSI, CDP, S&P Global, MSCI, Sustainalytics, and others.
  • Manage inquiries and requests from customers, investors, ratings agencies, and others regarding ESG related matters, providing information and support as needed.
  • Provide expertise and support in preparing for future regulatory frameworks and disclosure requirements.
  • Review and interpret data and reports by ESG firms and ratings agencies, and partner with firms/agencies to update and ensure accuracy of data reported.
  • Analyze performance and positioning with respect to ESG ratings and prepare internal ESG reports detailing findings and highlighting opportunities for improvement.
  • Benchmark peer reporting and disclosure practices, conduct ESG gap analyses, and make recommendations for improvements in metrics and disclosure.
  • Identify emerging ESG reporting risks, challenges, and opportunities through ongoing monitoring of ESG developments and external forums/working groups in order to inform internal stakeholders and advise on appropriate actions.
  • Work with communications colleagues on external reporting, fact sheets, web content and other ESG related content and communications for a variety of stakeholders and channels.


What you can bring to this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (sustainability, environment, social performance, or other).
  • 8 years+ relevant experience in an ESG related field or function.
  • Proven success guiding strategy and managing multiple ESG/sustainability/CSR/etc projects
  • Experience with ESG reporting standards, requirements and frameworks, including SASB, TCFD, GRI, etc., and producing ESG reporting content for a global audience
  • Ability to identify ESG disclosure performance gaps and communicate risks and opportunities
  • Expertise in program management, collaboration and communication skills
  • Ability to work cross functionally to engage, monitor, and advise on a broad set of ESG topics.
  • Resourceful, self-motivated and able to independently prioritize shifting workloads
  • Ability to work in a matrix organization structure with a large group of ESG content owners
  • Experience working successfully to drive cross-functional alignment with highly distributed teams.
