Job Description

The AVP, ESG Reporting & Ratings will drive and shape the evolution of Ares’ environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting strategy, as well as drive messaging and distribution of ESG content for the firm. They will be responsible for acquiring and consolidating precise ESG data and performance metrics from various contributors across the organization to produce industry leading sustainability reporting and disclosures that comply with relevant standards and regulations.


Based in New York, this role will interact regularly with the Ares Public Investor Relations, Corporate Communications, Talent Development, and Compliance teams.  The role will also have frequent interactions with the Global Head of ESG.


Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Partner with the ESG team to organize thought leadership efforts across Ares, ensuring clear and consistent messaging and tangible examples of financial and sustainability impact. Partner with Corporate Communications and Talent Development teams to distribute ESG content through key external and internal channels.
  • Oversee end-to-end development of the Annual Sustainability Report, TCFD Report, and Sustainability Disclosures (aligned with external standards, such as GRI and SASB/IFRS), including report layout and design production.
  • Manage Ares’ approach to third party ESG ratings (MSCI, Sustainalytics, etc.) including monitoring performance and recommending areas of improvements. Manage firm-wide ESG reporting processes like UNPRI.
  • Partner with Compliance to deliver on ESG regulatory reporting (CSRD, SEC).
  • Actively contribute to other corporate publications, regulatory filings, and ESG content.
  • Support the broader ESG team with project management and development of internal / external deliverables.


Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree required. MBA or equivalent degree in finance, economics or environmental management strongly preferred.


Experience Required: The ideal candidate will have a desire to build upon Ares’ existing ESG processes, with deep knowledge of ESG reporting and communications. They will be an energetic, passionate leader genuinely inspired by our mission and values.

 

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in ESG reporting, communications/marketing, and/or corporate social responsibility, preferably within the financial services industry.
  • Ability to create and execute an ESG reporting and messaging strategy that aligns with the needs of various stakeholders.
  • Experience with ESG industry initiatives and reporting frameworks including PRI, TCFD, GRI, SASB/IFRS, and CSRD.
  • Experience developing sustainability-related communications strategies.
  • Experience identifying, tracking, and reporting on ESG data management and KPIs, including developing systematic processes to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • General knowledge of the finance sector levers for change as they relate to sustainability initiatives.
  • Ability to partner with a wide range of internal colleagues.
  • Proven track record to balance multiple projects and competing priorities.

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.


$175,000 - $195,000
